A subtly complex, natural material, vetiver is the pungent root of a tall grass. Its multifaceted, earthy scent contains notes both cool and woody and warm and spicy. It is a popular base note that adds depth and smooths sharp edges of fragrances. Depending on how it is used, it can give an herbaceous, fresh, almost medicinal note, reminiscent of traditional "barbershop" colognes, or it can add a natural, expansive, contemplative quality to modern woody scents.
